the lower legs seem a little stoggey and I guess the tail could do with being more slender at the end.... or just elongating, but it has a really nice "proud" pose and the wings supporting the body like that looks great!
the head on its own was good, but i like it much much more with this body!

Glad you liked it michaelw. The legs and tail were where I was headed next since I still haven't given this thing any toes yet. I didn't make an image yet from what I worked on while watching tv last night. I did add in some of the musculature on the arms and back. Since he looked a bit more like a glider than a full flyer I was thinking about elongating the tail a bit but also flattening it out to add a fin for stabilization. I considered going back into the head model to add a larger crest, but I'm already hitting a bit over 300k triangles and I want to make sure I add in the other things I wanted first. I'm not sure where the limits of this laptop are with sculptris, but it seems like I'm starting to hit a bit of frame drop every now and then where it is now. Might need to spend some time with the reduce brush before long.

Got a chance to spend a few minutes updating the legs and get a bit of the tail in there. That tail may be changed quite a bit since I'm not too thrilled with the shape at this point. Still no toes. I may start on those tonight when I get a chance to get back on sculptris.
woh, I love the head! The proportions still feel a bit awkward, but the head is a total riot. The idea of the wings is really nice, too. It's sometimes so damn tough to describe. I wonder if you could actually find some (don't rip my head off, please) creatures on earth that somehow would compliment your ideas, you know. Anything that you think would be excellent in terms of emotional design for the body's proportions. Just a tired thought of mine... I've never done that myself, so... hmm...
Anyway, I think the most distracting part are the shoulders, which somehow just seem to wide and too bodybuilder like, especially since it has wings. If that head wasn't so damn spectacular, I wouldn't be so eager to impose with my impressions about the rest, so I hope you forgive me...

taron Impose all you want... ;D Some good suggestions there. Originally that head was just a fun time with Sculptris. I don't think I had anything in mind when I was making it except "maybe an eye here and some bumps there". That might be why it may seem a bit off. I hadn't intended to create a full creature out of it until the next day. Could probably find some pictures of musculature for a bat or a bird that might add that bit of realism it could use. Or I could add in a kind of harness for a rider that might hide some of the stranger aspects to the upper body area. Probably better to find the references and learn something rather than always hiding the areas I don't know what to do with... ;D

I need to keep searching for some bat anatomy. A few of them looked like they might be quite helpful but with too much hair to really see what was underneath. There aren't many musculature renderings of bats out there. I did pull those shoulders in to match the slope of the neck and it does seem to look a lot more streamlined that way. Also added in some basic toes that need to be detailed.

What I was originally hoping to find out was how a bats musculature attatches its upper arms to the torso. The first shoulders I had were a bit too bodybuilderish as taron noticed. I'm hoping that bringing them in considerably has helped that situation and kept them from being too human. They could still use some detailing in there though. I think that in order to make it believable as a flyer, or even a glider, I'd have to extend those wings out to at least 3 times their current length. Not looking forward to that...lol

Thanks wasa and submore. Guess I really should have looked further than google images.. ;D Going to be studying those pretty carefully. I do see a number of those similarities now that I can see where the muscles are put in. I don't mind so much now how I put in some of the muscle groups but I'll be using some of these references once I go back in to move them around before detailing. Now I'll really have a use for that foreground app. Those should really help in getting it put together a bit better.
And good job for a first time in a 3d modeling program cabretie. I think you may have meant to add that to the first sculpts thread, but I don't mind it here as well... ;D
i think that the legs are very bulky..... I'd slim down the thighs a little and from the knee down could be much much much more slender.... it looks really heavy! look at a horse (I know it' not a horse) how much more slender the lower legs are... actually pretty much any animal I can think of has more slender legs than this....
the tail is overwhelming the body now too! maybe make the tail twice as long!
sorry to be so negative, i just think the upper body is awesome, the lower body distracting and detracting at the moment
