I use Fraps, then VirtualDub to reduce its size to +-40mb per 30 minute video.

I agree that one of the best ways of capturing the modeling is camstudio. But most of the times the session lasts for nearly an hour (particularly like me who is still learning) and the file will become very very large. Is it possible to screen capture the images automatically in, say 2 or 5 minute interval and then make a video joining all these things? Some of the videos of models in this forum and YouTube are made like Time lapse videos. What is the method of making time lapse video easily ? When I make a model worth sharing with others, I would like to try these techniques and upload in Youtube or share here....

Talking about video edditing, does anyone know if Lightworks finally went opensource? Or do they just keep saying that to create some buzz? Lightworks might be good for professional results but its needlessly picky about formats. I agree that one of the best ways of capturing the modeling is camstudio. With screen capture programs you can usually try different capture codecs to reduce how demanding it is. And if you don't plan on using sound make sure you don't also capture sounds. But capturing long will give always give you large files. So you need to compress files with compression programs afterwards. VirtualDub will do the trick. And VirtualDub will also will let you turn things into time lapse videos, add sound and line up clips. Simple editing.

Has anybody mentioned Debut Video Capture, yet? If not, it's what I'm using now and it's really a blessing. There's a free and a commercial version, but I actually ended up paying the $40 bucks or what ever it was, because they were well spent on that one. It's the first one that really offered all kinds of formats to capture in right away as well as having no troubles with audio. I had huge troubles with camstudio in that regard. All in all, I currently am convinced that Debut is the best I know of or have ever used and I used to use Camtasia, but that's just outrageously expensive and really nothing one would miss, if you had debut instead. I'm happy. Hmmm...sounds like a friggin' commercial. Lol. Sorry about that. Anyway... just an FYI.

Thanks for the useful info. I am now able to use either BB Flashback express or Virtualdub for creating videos of Sculptris models. But there are minor problems with both of them. BB Flashback saving video file is a non-standard file format of .fbr and if I save as .avi there is loss of quality and file size is large (as expected). With Virtualdub, screen capture is very difficult (of course I am yet to learn fully and master it). I think there is no such timelapse saving in the software, but only by saving with high frame rate, such effect is achieved. Is it correct ?

Aha, I dont know BB Flashback. Well I wouldnt use Virtualdub for capturing, not even sure how that works. Virtualdub is just for simple post production: editting and video compression afterwards. For capturing I would try Camstudio, HyperCam2 or Debut Video Capture. There isnt only one correct way to do it, just try things out, see what works. There are video tutorials on most programs too. Just play with the programs to get familiar with them. Here is a clip that indeed uses framerate for such effects. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhHHj1mQ0Fc

Use video recorder. My personal choice is Joyoshare Screen Recorder (https://www.joyoshare.com/screen-recorder-for-win/). It can record desktop videos in 1080P with sound. Camtasia is expensive.
