I wonder how the beta test is going, sad there's no teaser either here or on the zbrush board.
Anyways, seems like Sculptris is going to have a real competition on free digital sculpting software : the newly released Meshmixer 04 is now including dynamic sculpting too ! see the video : www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrvHhTa0SXg
Great to see more and more people are now including this new creativity-friendly way to sculpt in their application, after Sculptris and 3DCoat, Meshmixer is joining the revolution Hopefully Blender will soon enough get to play there too.
I noticed on the zbrushcentral Knacki pointing to this post from DrPetter (from 3 weeks ago) :
Quick status update. We're close to releasing Sculptris Alpha 6 now, so you should be seeing a public announcement of that very soon. The main focus of this version is to add support for Mac OSX, fix bugs from Alpha 5 and improve the workflow by adding ZBrush navigation and GoZ mesh transfer. If you had any problems with Alpha 5 or couldn't run it properly, you should definitely check out this update.
This is a sort of stepping stone towards further updates, making sure the original stuff works very well before adding more. When Alpha 6 has been released, I will continue working on a bunch of exciting new features like those discussed in this forum thread.
Hope you will all continue to sculpt and have fun!
... improve the workflow by adding ZBrush navigation ...
I hope it does not mean what i think it means. Sculptris had a fantastic very intuitive navigation for both the mouse and the interface, you just can't say that from Zbrush (i tried the trial version a year ago and it convinced me that Sculptris was definitively a piece of interface and sculpting navigation genius).
Thanks, i didn't noticed version 6 of meshmixer and just tested it.
It's very promising.
But i agree with you, navigation and interface are not very intuitive, Sculptris (at least the current version, i'm always very worried about the "zbrush navigation" DrPetter is implementing in the soon-to-be-released version) is for now always the most intuitive.
Hopefully once the dynamic sculpting is improved, the developer will improve the interface/navigation too.
I have read that 3DCoat too, after hiring the coder that was working on the Unlimited Clay for Sculptris will have this kind of "face on demand" method implemented.
It's nice to see more and more developers noticing how much artist-friendly this method is.
Exactly, the adaptive tesselation is really confortable to work with. Farshtary, who has been hired by Pilgway was working on adpative tesselation for Blender. But, I don't know if he will go on on this...
Farsthary released his Blender patch a few months ago , i tested on a build found on zoo-logique (there was none on graphicall) : www.zoo-logique.org/3D.Blender/index.php3?zoo=com but it's not very usable, very buggy, very unstable and slow (and only applicable to a 2.54 version of Blender that is way behind the current version).
Hopefully someone will be able to take over the work, as Farsthary will very likely only continue to develop the version he's working for 3DCoat, but i imagine it's far from easy to rework someone else code so there's certainly chances Unlimited Clay will never be integrated it in Blender.
Maybe at some point another coder will code a different adaptive tesselation addon to provide Blender with such a feature.
As GoZ works great jumping from one to the other app, a zb navigation is needed. New sculptris will have both navigations in options menu.
And i'm really happy I was very worried that the Zbrush terrible navigation would replace the current Sculptris awesome one (i always have nightmares from when i toyed around the Zbrush trial version , such an awfull navigation and interface).
But it does not, it's apparently a setting you choose in the options, so we should be able to contninue using the intuitive Sculptris navigation if we don't want the Zbrush one.
Good to know it's finally released for window and mac (i thought there would be a linux version to cover most OS), but a bit disapointed by seeing nothing new out of that "goz" button that i have no use for, there's no new tools or functions in this release.
I was hoping the remeshing function (that DrPetter showed a year ago) was a part of this Sculptris upgrade, but unfortunately it's not.
But i really hope that at least the crashing bugs from some specific topology are fixed, and that the problems with loading a model that has already an UV will not crash the Paint mode 80% of the time while loading it too.
Anyways, good to see a new version of Sculptris, i hope it will have improved performance too.
Well, now that Sculptris Alpha 6 is on release I cannot but wonder if you feel more free now than when you traveled back and forth in Europe in motorbike with yr dad.... and if the corporative experience suits yr needs or its merely a money thing... don't misunderstood.. every human needs money for a living and to pursue personal dreams. You did a wonderful thing eventually, (your son Sculptris) and thanks so much for the sharing with all of us... I simply ask myself if its what you really really want in the end, to work for some big company fulltime, or if you begin to feel something is working out much differently than you may have anticipated.... Big simpathy for you, I wish I would have alive encounters and chats as friends, u must be a rich inside guy beside everything,
