I just picked up Sculptris last night, and was blown away by how awesome the software is. I donated money this morning, and its rare for me to do that so quickly on donation supported software--but I knew immediately how awesome Sculptris is and felt compelled to do so.
But aside from donating, I wanted to contribute to Sculptris another way. Currently, and I don't mean to be rude or critical when I say this, the Sculptris.com website is not as amazing as the software is. I really think it should be, I think it should compliment how amazing the software is. Feeling this way, I decided to create a fan home page for Sculptris. Now, I won't claim my version is an amazing triumph or anything [I'm a professional developer, not designer] but I think it's a forward step in improvement. And, I'd like to donate it to Tomas for use on the regular website (no charge or course). At the very least, I hope it can serve to put into motion a new website more fitting for this great product.
Nice, but I think it's far too much text right on the page. I'd keep it less frantic by making the text revealable or something like that. Calm it down a little. Other than that...hmm...nice. Think of the simplicity of Sculptris. You don't want to make a website that seems a whole lot more complicated!
I hope DrPetter will get in contact with you and see about putting something together. Thinking about it, it might be good for there to be a community-run site for sculptris, rather than one DrPetter would have to manage himself..
Here's a proof of concept mostly in favour of simplistic form, although I believe the middle ground to be best. I created this mostly for myself (I learn), but good for brainstorming as well. Let me know if you like it. The components are identical to the current website, although there are better ideas already posted such as the Community Resources component among other community oriented features I saw in the dark design. The basic idea is to demonstrate the simplicity of the software through the simplicity of (atleast the splash page of) the website.

great work there! i think there's no room to be picky, you're doing this as a fan for free. it already looks way better than the original site. i like the darker tone of the site, it's got good balance.
the only thing i'd like to see in there is, as rob49152 said, the S sphere logo.
i hope Tomas adopts this as sculptris home, he should definitely talk to you
Thanks for the feed back. I actually agree about the incorporating the logo, however the logo available on the current site utilizes alpha transparency and when place don a dark background doesn't quite retain its colorization. I'd place it on a white background and crop it out myself but I recently un-installed my copy of photoshop, so I don't have a tool to do it with. (And I can't stand gimp, so I wont be using it).
I'm sure there are lots of tweaks that could be made to further polish my mock-up, but seeing as Dr. Petter was on vacation, I decided to spend my time sculpting instead .
