in blender you can get excellent results using an animation "cage" and the "mesh deform" modifier.... www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-246/mesh-deform/ essentially it's a custom lattice.... you can build this lattice with good edge flow for proper joint deformation, easy weighting etc and then rig it as usual... then it "lattice deforms" the triangle "messy mesh" from sculptris... best of both worlds.... it can be really easy to re-use too, as any character with similiar proportions and size will "just work" with minimal tweaking.... I believe that Messiah Studio has similar functionality now too....
