qwerty, thanks. it's been quite a struggle to get a posture i like on this guy, he's gone through quite a bit of iterations. still long way to go. sculptris has proved quite competent in tweaking the posture. the masking tools could be improved, namely getting the brush to work by surface/edge distance so the mask can not bleed from hands to hips etc.
taron, thanks on the encouragements! unfortunately he's far from being done. i have until sep15th to finish him, that's when the contest ends. progress has been brutally slow, mostly because i didn't have time to work on him. as for the animation it all depends on how he's gonna turn out at the end and if it's even worth going the distance. i am testing the 3DC auto reTopo, and am itching to dig into blender's reTopo/surfaceSketch, it's very likely that i will use this character for the test so i might end up with an animation friendly mesh.
I freeking love how it looks so round, soft and curvy, but on the other hand his face looks kinda edgy, hard and not so pleasing for me. But maybe you have gone for that contrast between his body and head on purpose.
